Important Information About Paying Your Taxes

 

Dear Taxpayer:

  • You have until January 31 st to pay your taxes without penalty and interest charges. Be sure that you have statements for all properties that you wish to pay on. You are responsible for seeinq that taxes are paid on all properties that you own before January 31 st whether or not you receive a tax statement. The tax assessor-collector is prohibited by state law from waiving penalty and interest charges no matter how valid a reason there is for not paying on time.
  • You may pay your taxes by mail by making your check payable to the Walker County Appraisal District and mailing your check along with the bottom portion of your tax statement to:

If you are payinq by mail, be sure that the payment is postmarked no later than January 31 st Payments postmarked after that date will be charged penalty and interest. If you require a tax receipt, a self-addressed stamped envelope will need to be included with your payment.

  • You may pay your taxes in person at the appraisal district office located at 1819 Sycamore Ave. in Huntsville, Texas. Office hours are 8:00 A.M. until 4:30 P.M., Monday thru Friday.
  • IF YOU PLAN TO PAY IN PERSON BE SURE TO BRING ALL OF YOUR TAX STATEMENTS. THIS WILL EXPEDITE THE POSTING PROCESS AS WELL AS ENSURE PAYMENTS ARE POSTED TO THE CORRECT ACCOUNTS.
  • You may pay your taxes by credit card online at www.walkercountyappraisal.com. All payments made via credit card will incur a 2.19% convenience fee. Payments made via credit card will not appear on the website until processed by the CAD and may take up to 2 weeks to reflect the payment online.
  • You may make partial payments on current year taxes or prior year’s taxes that are due.
  • This tax statement is for current year taxes only. If there are taxes due on your property for prior years, those taxes have been referred to the applicable jurisdiction’s law firm for collection of delinquent tax.
  • Persons who have bought real estate earlier this year are liable for the entire year’s tax even if the taxes were prorated with the seller at the time of closing. Persons who owned business personal property or mobile homes on January 1 st of the tax year are personally liable for the entire year’s taxes even if the business was closed, or the property was sold, or moved out of the county during the year.
